The Great Kapok Tree

The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders took audiences on a journey through the rain forests of Brazil during their performance of “The Great Kapok Tree.” Adapted from the renowned book by Lynne Cherry, this story comes to life with brilliant set decorations and costumes made by the students themselves.

Famous Missourians

The 4-5-6 graders held a Famous Missourians Exhibit in the Keeping Room. Each was dressed in character, gave a short narration, and displayed pictures, quotes and timelines. The 1-2-3 graders were gracious and curious participants. It was a fun and educational experience.

A Field Trip to the Climatron and Into the South American Rain Forest

Rainforest

Field trips are great adventures for our children. We had an outstanding docent led program in the Climatron. The docents had excellent presentations and asked a ton of questions. The first compliment we received was on how much our students knew. And at the conclusion of our program the docents remarked on how attentive, inquisitive, knowledgeable our children were. The docents bragged about the children to the head of the education department. She came looking for us at lunch to see just who we were. The compliments continued. Later, the children were in the orchid show admiring and drawing pictures of the beautiful display of orchids. Two former teachers made it a point to stop and rave about how involved our students were. Parents, you have much to be proud of. In school and out of school, our children know what to do and do it!

Stop by and see our big wall map of the USA. Last week we completed our study of the United States of America. Each student finished two state cutouts. They marked the capital, added state symbols, and flags. In music the students are recording the state song. An iMovie is being created using pictures of each student with their state cutout along with the recording of the state song.

Magnets Lab

The Magnets Lab is a study of 13 experiments. We had magnets of different sizes and we determined which were stronger. There are two sides of a magnet – the north and the south. The North side is stronger. To stick two magnets together, use the north end of one and south end of the other. South & south and north & north repel each other. The more a magnet is used, the weaker it becomes. We made a nail into a magnet by rubbing a magnet on a nail. To demagnetize it, we threw it on the ground. We made a compass – we put water in a tray and stuck a needle into a cork and put the cork in the water tray.
